Just like to back up some of the comments here after driving and being driven in several Audi A4s:

* well put together and reliable (usually)
* basic models are exactly that
* diesel engines are great if you don't mind them - much more pull too

Regrding the convertible, a couple of my frineds have one. One has the 1.8T and the other the 2.4 version - numerous arguments between the two about which is better. Both agree, however, that it's a lovely car with the fact that it's a rag top the only issue for both of them.

I'd go for the 18 month old, 1.8T version with full service history.

But I am a f*ckwit.

You my friend may be, I resemble the remark, i have decided on just that, though its closer 2 years old, my concern was the rag top, can live with it though, drove an automatic for first time, sit back and steer,
What do others think on the Auto/Manual gears issue? And with 18k miles on clock is 21k too much to pay?Its the 1.8T, Sorry if this should be in motoring section. I think i have sorted a good deal with everything, they thought they lost the sale at one point, not signed owt yet mind, told em i was been mugged off by them and to show some loyalty for repeat business and to stop taking the piss out of me. Seemed to pull em into action, not literally, not my industry. Told em i knew they needed to make a profit thats the game, however not too much at my expense, also that do a good deal on this motor and imagine my next step up in 18 months/2 years. Win, win, for both of us, plus theres a lovely little Audi garage down the road. Sure they are on my way of thinking now.

Getting there...

Hey up Daz, I drive an A4 (not Convertable) and no real negative points to speak of.

With the deal you've been offered, tell em you've given a cracking deal for a Saab 93 convertable and are tempted, see if it sparks em into action.

Back on topic...
The Audi's are well screwed together, good TDI's
Awesome RS4 etc
Take the pi** with serviceing and parts costs mind
Will last the miles if looked after
Don't buy a poverty model...You might as well get the Skoda

Cheeky barsteward! I'm on my second Octavia VRS, they are a LOT more reliable than any Audi, or VW. It's the same as the Golf GTI under the bodywork.
Interior plastics may not be quite up to Audi standards, not many models are though. I would recommend a VRS for value and performance. But I'm not a badge snob

Not the prettiest hot hatch, but then again I've seen worse. Also nothing comes close for practicality
Some of these are over the top. Mines like the race blue hatch

Eye. It's a minger. But not as bad as the estate VRS with silver wheel arches. Awful.
The blue hatch with 19 inch wheels looks lush though. I might get some.

The black one on the moors looks EVIL.

I'm just in the market for a new car and what a bloody nightmare it is. I dont even know what I want!!

I currently have a 320d with 172K miles on it. Toyed with buying 2 cars, one that has good mpg to get me to the office and back and something "nice" for getting around, like maybe a Jag XK Coupe.

Choices choices.

A lad here has the Octavia estate and he loves it, especially the 60mpg. And it comes with a colour coded balaclava so no-one recognises him in it!

Thanks JR, but no thanks lol.

I am looking at the Citreon C4 1.6 Diesel though for the fuel economic choice although the Kia Ceed looks quite a good bet too.
