Amanda slicing open her "room mate" to get the key? The Asian cop getting his head blown off while chasing Jigsaw? Not a whole lot, granted, but it certainly stepped up for the rest.

Woman having chest ripped open in Saw 3
Maniac bloke in Saw 2 cutting off skin on back of his neck
Guy in chains in Saw 3 being ripped apart
Guy in rack having arms, legs and neck twisted till bones snap in Saw 3
etc etc

Plenty of gore

Do keep up Puppy, he's taliking about Saw - He didn't bother with the follow ups as there wasn't enough gore. Come to think of it, it probably was a bit tame compared to the next three.

ah so he did! Yeah they certainly upped the gore on the sequels, but still think Saw was excellent. A film shouldnt be just about gore, it needs good characters and twists and I think it offerred all 3. Infact often film makers over gore things to compensate for weaker stories or characters imo

I don't think a film should just be about gore, and I always try to find the good in films (and usually ignore the bad). However, everyone was telling me how gory it was, so I had built it up in my mind.

I should probably watch it again, and give the others a go too.

I never listen to other people when it comes to movies, cept maybe Fitz as we like some similar films. If you werent a fan of the first then you probably wont like the rest, but they do get more gory

I didn't realise it at the time, millie, but Saw was only setting up the sequels. Bit like the LoTR series, they deffo had 5 or 6 movies in mind when they started. The second one, in particular, ramps up the gore element. The first ten minutes of IV alone would have you reaching for the sick bags. Strange as it sounds though, its needed by the film, a bit like 7even needed some of the more putrid scenes. I can't explain why until you see the films, because it is an integral part of the plot. I watched them up to III myself, and then went around a mates house with the first three, as he'd heard so much about them. he enjoyed them so much he bugged the shit outta me to get IV - Don't know why he couldn't go to Xtravision himself, the lazy bollix.

I don't really take too much from other's opinions on if a film is good or bad. In this instance I was just accepting what I was told about the content of the film.

I will give it a try again as I would think it was my type of film, seeing that pretty much most films are.
