Sophie Lancaster; The girl killed "just for being a Goth"

For those who don't know, Sophie Lancaster and her boyfriend, Robert Maltby, were walking through a park in Bacup, Lancashire, UK, when they were set upon by a group of youths. They were both beaten, just for being different, for being "goths", while Robert survived the terrible attack, Sophie sadly was too badly injured. 5 youths, all from Bacup and Whitworth, have been charged with her murder. I was friends with sophie from way back in Primary School (I was 4, she was 5).

Yesterday was three months to the day since Sophie died, her murder sliced through my heart, and the hearts of all those who knew her, (and many who didn't)

I'm writing to ask if tomorrow, what would have been Sophie's 21st birthday, you would raise a glass and drink in memory of my beloved friend.

Sophie is gone, never to be replaced, and every day I miss her. We didn't speak much in the last few years, but I was still able to pick up the phone and call her.

I hope you will all continue fighting for the S.O.P.H.I.E. campaign, and that Sophie's memory, even those who didn't know her, will live forever, standing for what we all believe in and want, a peaceful, hate-free society.

Thank you all for reading this

I think everyone who dies in such a pointless way dies in vain, but if bringing awareness to what is going on can help prevent even just one incident like this then your efforts are truly vital.

It was pointless in a way, but a few good things came out of it. Hopefully people will stand up against this. It has made me recontact a lot of my old friends, and, its got the little thugs who did it off the streets of Whitworth. I have had a run in with them a few times (they bricked me and Tom for much the same reason, and they beat my little sister senseless on her last day of school).

I just want them to get sent down for the rest of their lives.

Such a sad story WhW. I hope the campaign gains some momentum. WW jr 2's friend is a bit 'different' and gets picked on a lot but is honestly one of the nicest kids I have ever met. It's so pointless.

Hopefully, if enough people on enough MB's post this up, the campaign will gain the momentum it needs.

It's sad, and I miss her, but I know she'd be glad to be helping a cause.

It's her memorial concert tonight. Up at St Mary's Chambers in Rawtenstall. I couldn't go but I hope everyone there is having a good time

For anyone in the area there's going to be a gig in Heywood (near Bury) at the Heywood Pub/ Rumours bar on Friday night (21ST) at 7.30 pm, where Joon will play and funds raised, hopefully awareness too!

Text from Whitworth, apparently one of the girls charged with Sophies murder has pleaded guilty. A little good news of an awful thing.
