Mourinho mentioned it a few months back, now Benitez has brought it up. Was listening to something about this last night and there was a journalist from Germany on and he was explaining how the system worked over there. The reserve team can play in a competitive league, gain experience etc but can never be promoted to the same league as their first team. I think it could be good for the Premiership teams and for the league teams as they could improve both leagues standards. Plus it may encourage the top teams to play more home grown players. I know it could dilute the football league and may even force the weaker teams down the leagues but there is also the argument there are too many teams anyway. |

I would be against this as i see no reason why a team who is looking to blood in young talent can not loan them to other teams who are in lower leagues than themselves. That said it does work in Spain and other European countries so does merit further research befopre it can be completely ruled out of the question. I would see difficulties where a Chelsea second string would be much too strong for any lower league team and cotinually finishing top of the table thus denying other teams success and much needed funds from top spot in their respective table, also what about tv rights would this mean that the top 4 - or anyone else entering 2 teams - would be getting a larger slice of this cake??? Would their respective pitchs be fit for more top level - or whatever you would like to term it - games than they already receive given how poor some top clubs potches often find themselves in??? |

I'd been in favour of it aslong as there were stipulations like these 50% of the squad had to be under a certain age, maybe 21. 50% of the squad had to be English The only time players could swap between the reserves and the full squad was during any Transfer window. |

I wish people, especially premiership managers, would stop making 'suggestions' that will do nowt but help the big clubs get bigger and the small clubs vanish forever. Stop dicking around with the game, this idea is as stupid as the penalties to decide drawn league games suggestion. What a joke. |

Yeah but they only play 18 games a season. Mugsey - I think that if a team finishes top in other countres but can't get promoted due to the rules stay in that league and the next one down takes it's place. So i think the financial rewards would still be there for the other teams. HW - it's not just going to help the rich clubs if it's done correctly though. It may help the teams within that league as they could improve by playing better teams. May also improve the national team too. |

Where would be the incentives for players to either progess in to the first team or for the first team to ensure they don't get demoted to the reserves as is the case now. We make issues now of not throwing youngsters in to the first team from the reserve team, how is this not going to destroy their confidence if they are playing against superior opposition supplied from Premier teams. Would the existing Reserve League then become a 3rd-class league? |

When was the last time the FA/Premier League did something for the benefit of the smaller clubs. They have already looked at scrapping cup replays to help the big clubs who have to suffer the awful torture of taking their 40-man squad to Europe every other week. Fuck em. Keep things as they are. Actually, fuck that, and fuck the ridiculous TV deal that is going to see the premiership become a closed shop. |

I think it would further the gap between the lower leagues and the premiership and would play into the hands of the big teams with rich owners. Many lower league teams, particularly in the championship loan the players from the premiership in order to create a team, as they can't afford to buy players. Look at the likes of Birmingham who have several young loanees, these players would not go out on loan because there clubs would want them to play in the reserve team in whatever league they were in, rather than getting first team experience like they do now. Therefore lower teams with no transfer funds would struggle because they won't be able to compete. They won't be able to sign loan players from the premiership, so they'll have to buy players. But who would want to sign for a club like Birmingham when they can play the same standard of football in the lower leagues? The system is fine as it is. If they want to have more games then increase the amount of games that the reserves play against each other, or arrange friendlies etc. If they want players to have first team experience then send them out on loan and have a recall clause in the contract! |

Spot on. Ridiculous amounts of money are flooding into the premiership from pond life who buy a Scum/Chelscum/Liverscum/Arsescum top every season and wear it to the pub once a month. |

It's a totally bollock-brained idea, for so many reasons that I wont bother giving them. They'll just tell him to stop whinging and to fuck off and develop a few players with the perfectly adequate system we have already. So no harm done then eh. |

How about if a league match finishes in a draw there is 30 mins of extra time played by the reserve teams. Beats a penalty shoot out and woudl let the reservers have some action :lolanimate: |
