It seems that momentum is growing for this as the most recent FFC poll shows. I know that they only polled 2,100 people but I have an idea to improve on this. Why not put a tick box, with a comment box on every season ticket renewal/application for every professional club - Do you want to see the restoration of SSA's (Safe Standing Area's) at all league clubs? That way, they are mainly polling season ticket holders, a lot of which will be women, children, and people completely detached form the footy violence era. You will then probably find you have a poll which included nearly a million football fans. That may then start to have some sway and clout behind it. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/6444083.stm |

Bit of a sensible post from you Jonno!!!! Agree though, the report says only 45% of those polled were ST holders.....i'd love to see secure standing areas brought back, however small to start with. |

You could use a box. I agree with safe standing and get bored sitting down at football. |

May I add that Col wrote to our MP about this issue. He had looked into it and doesn't agree with bringing standing back. Doh. |

a conservative policy is to bring back Safe Standing Areas. Those who agree should also join the Stand Up, Sit Down campaign which looks into these areas and did the petition to get everyone to write to their local MP on the matter. http://s12.invisionfree.com/StandUpSitDown |

So basically where your MP stands on the issue is sitting down. Bloody typical politicians response! |

Your local MP is there to represent the views of the people who elected him, not to voice his own. Even if his views differ from that of the electorate, he is there to represent and express the views of the electorate. Has your local MP actually consulted his constituency on this matter or is he just another pompous prick on the gravy train that is out for himself? Silly question really, not many MP's actually remember where they started from and their pledge to reperesent those who voted for them in the first place. |

I really should write back to him, as he had missed the point of my letter, and not once did he use the term Safe Standing, and said terracing were a thing of the past. With Safe Standing terracing is a thing of the past. |

The whole reason terracing was got rid of was because of Hillsborough. But another big problem that day was the fencing. They had to get rid of fencing but didn't think they could do with terraces, as they thought it would create a throwback to the pitch invation and hooliganism era. Well now that we no longer have fencing, and pitch invasions for hooliganism are just about a thing of the past, then obviously the policing is working well. So why not introduce a Safe Standing Area? Makes perfect sense to me. the fans have been very well behaved, reward them with what they are asking for, not continue to punish them for something that happened 20 odd years ago. |
