A question (or questions) for Haakon really, hopefully for the benefit of us all.

Q1. What are the best ages of youth players to promote to your academy?
14, 15, 16, 17? And what kind of ratings should you be looking for when they are at this age?

Q2. When do you promote players to the First Team?
I have some youngsters and I don't know what to do with them. I have pasted below what their stats etc are and whether they are promotable now or not.

I have already promoted a couple of 17 year olds who's rating was less than 20 and I did what Haakon said. Didn't offer a contract, but put them on the transfer list on a 2 day listing. They both sold for over 100k. It's better than just letting them go.

Hopefully though haakon, we can use your advice to ensure that only quality youngsters are admitted to the Academy in the first place, and that we keep them there for the right amount of time before promoting them.

Thanks in advance haakon.
Jonno.

I don't find much value in taking in players 15 and under to the academy. They are cheaper to put in at first, but after 70 days their contract needs to be renewed. So these can actually end up being very expensive.

I would search only for players in 16-18 age group.

Promotion: I am very sceptical when it comes to promoting a 16 yr old player. Wait until he is 17 at least. I have no idea what the failure percentage is when it comes to promotions now, but I would also let players who are admitted into the academy at the age of 17 get to 18. Longer time in = more chances of successful promotion.

Ratings: As there is a limit on 8 players in the academy, be patient. I would demand higher ratings for a 17 yr old player than a 16. The 16 yr old has a better chance of improvement, he can stay down longer. For 16 yr olds I would demand minimum 70 or so. For 17 yr olds 80 or so.

Keep track of what your scouts bring back. Some of them are better off in the pub, and never come with good youth. By keeping stats of this you know which scout which should be used only for scouting opponents or to be replaced over time.

Finally: If you get some youth reports on 17 yr old players who are good, but not quite good enough to put into the academy do not remove the youth reports. If they get a bth'day while outside the academy the system will actually try to promote them :lolanimate: if they promote successfully, their report will however still be left in Youth Reports. Remove it, or the system will promote the player a second time giving you an identical "twin" in the first team squad. It can lead to all kind of problems, and a moderator might remove both.

I got up a 73 rated ATM without paying any credits this way. :P

I tried promoting a player that had 47 days left or whatever and he rejected the offer and left. :nono:

I see quite a few managers promoting too early and failing. One lost 4 out of 5 youth. Don't be influenced by short time gain and greed. Leave them in until they are ripe and ready.

Those who keep their cool in this game will profit.

Another thing: you can recruit youth from available funds. Keep it going managers, this is the ONLY way you will get good teams.
