RP Rules & Regulations

1) Respect the Game Master. Be courteous to the RP's creator (Game Master) and respect their wishes. The creator of the RP has the final say in what does and does not go in their RP. If you have been asked not to post, please do so and find another RP. This also applies to following the rules that the thread creator has set down to make sure that everybody is playing on the same level and playing fairly.

2) Use appropriate spelling and grammar. Mistakes here and there are okay, but don't use internet dialect such as l33t, g2g, etc. An occasional error is understandable, but do not make it a frequent occurance. Grammar also includes the use of paragraphs. For longer posts, it is essential that you use paragraphs to ensure that your post is easy to comprehend. Pasting your post into Microsoft Word and running a spell check before you post is advised.

3) Longer posts are better. No short, meaningless posting. All roleplay posts should consist of at least 10 lines. The ocasional short blurb is expected, but please avoid making it a habit. No one wants to read an essay, but your posts will be better if you can extend them. Detailed descriptions not only make roleplaying more interesting, it ensures that your fellow characters understand your play; reducing any OOC confusion, and hopefully preventing arguements about play.

4) No vulgarity. The standard rules apply, especially those regarding the posting of obscene and hateful material. You should be well versed in them before posting in this board. Cursing and swearing are not allowed. It is vulgar and unoriginal and does not make for effective roleplay.

5) Do not control other players. Unless you are told that you may do otherwise, you do not have control over any character other than your own. It is very rude to control another person's character.

6) Do not auto. Do not assume that any attack you have made against another character automatically hits the target. It is very rude to decide that the character is suddenly stabbed or struck blind or killed or whatever because you just did it to them without giving them a chance to block, evade, or counter. Likewise, don't assume that you are impervious to being damaged. Your character cannot dodge or block every attack thrown at you, so don't so say they can.

7) Do not god-mod. This includes things like pulling out powerful weapons that you never had before, blocking or dodging attacks in ways that shouldn't be possible, and using attacks that exceed the limits of your character's power.

8) Stick to your character. After you've established your character and your weapons, stick to it! Ddo not modify your character mid-roleplay unless you have the permission of the Game Master.

Fantasy Roleplay
The Fantasy Roleplay board is obviously for all fantasy roleplays. This is considered to be both Traditional Fantasy (wizards, elves, vampires etc.) and Modern or Sci-fi Fantasy (robots, and futuristic settings).

Non-Fantasy Roleplay
Roleplays in the Non-Fantasy Roleplay board are realistic. Realistic in the context that all roleplay is based on real-life situations (e.g. school situations, real people, etc.) or real historical events (e.g. Dark Ages, Wild West, World Wars etc.). Magic does not exist in these RP's.

Fanfic Roleplay
These roleplays based on the creations of others. They use characters, plots or scenarios that are not original, usually from books, movies, anime, video games etc.

All roleplaying is to be categorised as best you can into the above three sub-boards. Out Of Character (OOC) discussion is to be kept out of the three sub boards and contained within the Role Play Rules and Discussion board, so long with suggestions, questions and planning.

RP Closure Guidelines

Roleplays:

*Are considered inactive if no new posts are made within 4 weeks

*Will be closed if they:
>are inactive for over 4 weeks
>become inactive before a storyline is established (ie. only player profiles are posted)

Closed Thread CPR
Closed threads can be reopened. PM myself or an active admin or global mod with a valid proposal to continue the story or improve the current one and she will open it again.

The Game Master is the creator of the roleplay thread.

1) Do not make more RP's than you can handle. As the creator of the RP you are expected to be the most involved player. It is your responsibility to ensure that the RP is flowing smoothly and that the players remain interested. If for some reason you cannot master an RP anymore, please try to pass it onto another participant rather than contacting a mod to close it. Also, out of courtesy, warn your players before you do so.

2) Provide a sign-up sheet for players. This should include things such as physical appearance (hair and eye color, flesh tones, build, typical garments), some sort of history or backstory (family, friends, past, try to avoid allowing "dark and mysterious" histories as they allow players to make up whatever they want whenever it suits them), some kind of personality entry (motivations, goals, hopes, dreams, behavior), and, if applicable, equipment, weapons and abilities.

3) Establish the story. Establish enough of a story and situation for a roleplay. Roleplays that have little or no story and plot will be closed.

4) Do not make a roleplay with a storyline that closely mirrors or outright copies a preexisting roleplay. We do not need several threads of the same roleplay at a time.

5) If your RP is closed, DO NOT MAKE IT AGAIN. It was closed for a reason, and closed it will remain until you contact an RP mod and ask for it to be opened with a valid reason.

The Role Players Creed

1. I will maintain the illusion of the game by staying in character whenever possible. I will withhold out of character comments and restrict them to the designated board as not to disturb roleplay.

2. If I discuss the game with other players out of character, I will not allow my character to be influenced by this knowledge without express permission of the other players. I will take the time to allow my character to learn these things on his or her own during the course of the game.

3. I will separate myself as a player from my character as much as possible. While I understand that a lot of myself goes into my character and because the game is so very intense often real emotions will be drawn from me as a player, I also understand that my character is not me.

4. If I am not in the mood to play, I won't interrupt other people's games by coming into it out of character. I will find others who are not in character and go somewhere meant for out of character discussion.

5. I will not use my character as a vehicle for racism or bigotry. I will not use my character to promote pornography or obscenity. I, as a player, understand that there is no room in the real world for such things and will, to the best of my ability, not let it seep into the virtual world as well.

6. If I, as a player, feel that my character has been treated unfairly or that another character has overstepped the bounds of their abilities, I will approach the other character's player privately and discuss the situation in a calm adult manner and try to come to a resolution or compromise.

7. I will accept the hand that is dealt me in the game, understanding that it is a game and it's not about winning or losing, but about playing.

8. I will not allow setbacks in the game to be blown out of proportion. If I am overly emotional about what is happening, I will step back and not play until I can compose myself.

9. I will not carry grudges against fellow players. My character might not like another character, but again, I am an adult and understand that they are 'characters' and not the player that portrays them.

10. If I find that I simply can not get along with another player, I will avoid playing with them. But I will do so in a way that does not draw attention and I will not badmouth or otherwise slander the other player as such actions only makes myself look bad.

11. If my character is killed, I will obviously grieve for the loss, but I will also view the situation as an opportunity for me to grow as a player. By starting anew with a fresh identity, I will be able to leave all the negatives of that character behind - any grudges, dislikes or just plain bad habits- and take away the good, thus making my next character even better and more interesting.

12. I, as a player, will keep an open mind and allow people to play their characters the way their imagination leads them regardless if their interpretation is different to mine.
